BMW is known for it's performance and luxury vehicles. Founded in 1916 by Franz Josef Popp the Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (Bavarian Motor Works) is a German automobile and engine manufacturing company which also owns and produces the Mini brand and is the parent company of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
After WW1 BMW was forced to cease aircraft engine production and moved into the manufacturing of motorbikes (1923) and automobiles in 1928. The circular blue and white BMW logo represents the movement of an aircraft propeller to signify the white blades cutting through the blue sky.
BMW continued to develop and build motor cars through the century and had worlwide sales of over 820,000 vehicles in 2000 increasing to 1,068,000 by the end of the decade.

The 1 Series, launched in 2004, is BMW's smallest car, and available in coupe/convertible 8) and hatchback forms.
The 3 Series, a compact executive car manufactured since 1975, is currently in its fifth generation; models include the sport saloon, station wagon, coupe, and convertible. Since its first generation, the 3-Series is considered to be the benchmark, and competitors are often judged on how close they come to this car.
The 5 Series is a mid-size executive car, available in saloon and station wagon forms. The 5 Series Gran Turismo, beginning in 2010, will create a segment between station wagons and crossover SUV.
BMW's 7 Series is the executive car flagship and is the vehicle in which the company will introduce many of it's innovations.
The 6 Series is BMW's luxury sports coupe/convertible and a 2 seater roadster and coupe which succeeded the Z3 and Z4 has been sold since 2002.
The X3, BMW's first crossover SUV debuted in 2003 has been closely followed by the X4, X5 and X6 and are all luxury off road vehicles with the X6 being marketed as a 'Sports Activity Coupe'
