Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDIe SE Review

The 2009 Audi A6 is the latest generation of common-rail turbo diesel units from Volkswagen. The new 2.0-litre TDI engine emits just 139g/km of CO2, beating BMW’s 520d Touring by 1 gram of CO2. The 134bhp engine may appear under powered for a car measuring nearly five metres long, on the road, the gearing works well and the engine is sufficiently powerful.

Overall refinement of the Audi A6 Avant is excellent with minimum road noise, exceptionally good ride comfort, especially on uneven road surfaces. The Audi A6 2.0 TDIe SE six-speed manual gearbox is smooth and positive, and has a shift indicator to tell you when best to change gear. The Audi A6’s interior includes quality materials, excellent build and clarity. The centre console houses the MMI controls, which are a lot more user friendly than BMW’s equivalent i-Drive system. There’s plenty of adjustment from the steering wheel and seats, meaning that most drivers will find a comfortable driving position with ease. The Audi A6’s legroom and headroom are plentiful, and also benefits from a large boot space. With the seats up, the Audi A6 Avant can hold 565 litres of luggage, while folding the seats down, leaves a massive 1,660 litres of space. That’s more than the BMW 5 Series, and inline with Volvo’s V70.

The Audi A6 is priced well upgrades available are leather upholstery, auto-dimming rear view mirror, CD auto-changer and satellite navigation. The standard specification, includes 17-inch alloy wheels, light and rain sensors, six airbags and cruise control.
